Here is the topic synopsis template for head chairs to work on together with their vice chair and legal. Remember that each committee has two topics to work on and that drafts are due on December 31st, one week into winter break. Please share the documents with email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks for your dedication and hard work everyone!
Hello Delegates! We are another week closer to our first conference and here is a brief recap in case you missed the meeting.
We opened with an introduction on how to pay for conferences and make donations. The first part of the process is going to THHS MUN webstore. From here choose what package you want- advanced, novice, or a donation. The store will prompt you to login, although if you’ve never used the site before you will be required to make an account. Then direct your way to check and out and pay. Additionally, if you plan on going to Tustin it’s required for you to pay for your committees by October 27th as they need final head counts. While on the topic of head counts Capistrano Valley High School conference is coming up and they requested a head count. For reference, the conference will be held on December 8 and as of right now there are a total of 23 delegates interested in attending. Out of those 23, 7 are interested in going as an advanced delegate and 16 are interested as going as a novice delegate.
Soon after, we looked at MUN 101: A Guide on Resolutions where we examined the different parts of a resolution along with how to write a position paper. Additionally, the topics of pre-ambulatory clauses and operative clauses were looked at in depth and we analysed a chart with examples for both clauses.
Afterwards, delegates attending Tustin were reminded that position papers were due on November 1st. We then accessed Tustin’s MUN website where we looked at their position paper rubric. Here we did a brief overview of the required components of a position paper for Tustin (if any delegate needs help feel free to send us a Remind). Following that, we gave the delegates that paid for Tustin the opportunity to choose their committee for Tustin.
Finally, we were interested anyone was still interested in applying for vice and legal positions at IIMUN. Seeing as a handful of people missed the deadline, applications for vice chair and legal will be reopened.
Thank you everyone and we will hold our next meeting on November 2nd, hope to see you there. The mock conference will be hosted next meeting!
Hello Delegates! With another meeting complete here is a brief recap in case you missed it or wish to review our discussion.
We initially examined Position Paper Slides where we elaborated how to research and write for committees. From there we went through the different sections of a position paper including country profile , background, UN involvement, country policy, possible solutions, and works cited. We also examined a position paper together and dissected it, commenting on its positive aspects and giving specific examples to the different sections of the paper. In the last section of our introduction, we examined how to formally conduct a speech and convey ideas to the audience. (Speech slides)
Afterwards, donation letters went around the room requesting a $10 donation to support the club and delegates. We are asking for a $10 donation in order to help us put together the IIMUN IX Conference and make it possible for our club to attend more upscale conferences and maintain a level of excellence. For a lot of students, MUN is more than just a club. But we won’t be able to manage a growing club and continue to improve the quality of the club and its experiences without your support.
Additionally, we discussed the upcoming Tustin conference and announced country assignments and available committees (Found here). Soon after a head count was conducted on interest in attending as a novice delegate with a required fee of $25 and advanced delegate with a required fee of $40. These positions will become available on the student web-store starting Monday. It became apparent that we had more delegates interested in the novice committees, and we will reserve more positions accordingly. Finally, delegates suggested the idea of having a mock conference before Tustin, and we will provide more information on this soon.
*Remember the spots for conferences are on a first come, first serve basis after you have paid
Lastly, head chair apps for IIMUN are now online! (Application due Oct 12.) For delegates who have previous MUN experience, we would highly encourage you to apply as head chair or vice chair. If you are new it is also encouraged that you submit an application for legal. All of these options will allow you to greatly expand your leadership experience and capabilities.
Thank you everyone and we will hold our next meeting Friday on October 12th.
Greetings delegates! It’s another brand new year in Model United Nations and we’re excited to have you here. In case you missed our meeting on September 28, here’s what happened!
Beginning with board introductions, we introduced our hobbies and aspirations outside of MUN. Icebreakers ensued as delegates were each asked if they could add a zero or deduct a zero from any number. Some answers were wholesome such as adding a zero to a pet’s lifespan — while others were adding zeros to the US national debt. Everything considered, we all had a great laugh at the variety of responses!
Afterwards, we looked at a synopsis of MUN and how conferences conduct debate. We examined the purpose of our club, attire, flow of debate, and different United Nations committees. You can find these details in the Google Slides we’ve attached, meant as an introduction to new delegates and the club in general. (Introduction Slides)
Lastly for delegates who have been with us in previous years, we’re pleased to announce that IIMUN IX will be hosted at Trabuco Hills High School on April 6th. Mark your calendars!
Thank you everyone for coming, and we will hold our next meeting Friday on October 5th.
